Passover - What It Means To The Believer

The First Passover

Exodus 12:1-40  Passover and all the Feast Days remind us of our identity as the Israel of Elohim, and connect us with the persecutions and deliverances of our ancestors.

A Personal Issue

1 Corinthians 5:7-8 - "Purge out therefore the old leaven that ye may be a renewed lump, as ye are unleavened.  For even Messiyah our Passover is slain for us.  Therefore let us keep the feast, not the old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened of sincerity and truth.
Passover is a personal issue of the heart.  It is important that each one of our lives have been passed over and delivered by the Lamb.

Up To The Seder

Matthew 26:17 - "Now before the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Yahshua, saying unto Him, 'Where wilt Thou that we prepare for thee to eat the Passover?' "   ..... seeking His direction in all things

Mark 14:2-16 ...... It is important that we prepare for the Passover physically, but even more needful is a spiritual preparation and readiness.

Luke 22:1-13 ..... Yahshua knows everything that will happen, and each step of the way is part of His plan.

The Seder

Luke 22:14-22 ,,,,, There is a desire to be with each other and to jointly partake of the Passover meal.  It is a close family atmosphere.

Matthew 26:17-29 ...... As we eat, we will remember all that Yahshua has done for us, and look forward to His return when He will drink new wine with us in His Father's Kingdom.  "But I say unto you, 'I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's Kingdom.' " (Matthew 26:29)

Mark 14:17-25  ...... Each one of us have betrayed Him.  Each one of us turned Him over to His persecutors, denied Him, and slew Him.  For verily, we were all born in sin, and it is the sin of every one of us that scourged His noble back, pierced His gentle hands, and pained His heavenly yet meek head.  But because He loves us, He forgives.......

Messiyah our Example

John 13:15 - "For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you."

John 13:6-10 .... There is that power struggle, that desire to do our own thing.  It's not easy to be in subjection to what He says, in spite of all that He has done for us.
John 13:1-20  ..... But it always comes back to this: He is our Master and Teacher, and we must learn to follow His example, and to be servants like Him.  Though He is our King, He took on the role of being a servant, in order to teach us that our place is that of willing servitude to Him and our fellow man.

The Betrayal

Luke 22:21-23 - " 'But behold, the hand of him that betrayeth Me is with Me on the table.  And truly the Son of Adam goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom He is betrayed!'  And they began to inquire among themselves which of them it was that should do this thing."

John 13:21-30  .... Yahshua is still being congenial to and patient with Judas, even as the man is going out to prepare to betray Him.  We all frown darkly on Judas, but Yahshua was kind to him even at the end, and so He is to us.  Remember, we have all betrayed Him.

Prior To The Stake

John 13:31 - 18:1 ..... Yahshua instructs us on how to live worthy of His offering for us.

The Singing of The Hymn

Mark 14:26 / Matthew 26:30  .... Even in the midst of His distress, Yahshua led His followers to sing.  He cared enough to comfort their hearts, and He also knew that His Father would comfort Him with the song.  We'll never know what they sang, but it must have been something very soothing and comforting, perhaps a Psalm.

The Fulfillment of Scripture

Matthew 26:31 -28:20  ..... He has done what He said He would.  Now will we do what He has told us to, and what we have promised to Him?

Mark 14:27 -16:20   ..... In this Passover season, and always, let us confirm His Word to those among whom Yahweh has placed us.  There is a reason for the scattering of Israel.  Wherever you are, wherever Yahweh has scattered you for this time being, know that His plan is perfect, and confirm that to those around you.  Your character, your words, and your life are a confirmation of something.  Are they a confirmation of Him and what He has done?
